The raw volume of brand appearances
What are Mentions?
While Visibility tracks the percentage of responses that feature your brand, the Mentions metric tracks the absolute, raw volume of those appearances.
Definition
A Mention is counted every single time your brand appears in an AI response. If you run a prompt 10 times, and your brand appears in 8 of those responses, your Mentions count for that run is 8.
Mentions vs Visibility
It's important to understand the relationship between these two metrics:
- Visibility is a ratio (e.g., 80%). It tells you how deeply you have penetrated a specific conversation or prompt.
- Mentions is a raw count (e.g., 8). It tells you the absolute scale of your AI presence.
For example, a low-volume niche prompt might yield 5 total Mentions but achieve 100% Visibility. Conversely, a highly generalized industry prompt might yield 50 Mentions but only achieve 10% Visibility because the AI is citing hundreds of competitors across massive response volumes.
Tracking Mentions is particularly useful for measuring the sheer aggregate scale of your brand's footprint across the entire generative landscape.
