Alerts
Get an email when your visibility, share of voice or sentiment moves past a line you set
An alert watches one metric for your brand and emails you when it crosses a line you set. Instead of remembering to check the Overview, you hear about a drop in visibility or a slide in sentiment when it happens, and can look into it while the cause is still fresh.
What an alert watches
Alerts run on three metrics:
- Visibility
- Share of Voice
- Sentiment score
An alert always measures your own brand, across all engines and all personas, on every active prompt. The filters you have set in the app do not apply to it.
Each alert uses one of two conditions.
% Change
Fires when the metric moves by more than a percentage you set. GEOflux compares your average over the window you choose (Over the last N days or weeks) with your average over the window just before it. Pick the direction: Drop, Rise or Either.
The change is relative, not in points: visibility going from 20% to 18% is a 10% drop. An alert has nothing to compare with until its first window has passed, so a new project's alerts start firing after that.
Example: "Alert me when Visibility drops by more than 10% over the last 7 days."
Absolute threshold
Fires when the metric Falls below or Rises above a fixed value, comparing your average over the last 7 days with it. Visibility and Share of Voice are percentages; sentiment is a score from 0 to 10.
Example: "Alert me when Sentiment score falls below 5."
Setting one up
- Go to Alerts (under Project in the sidebar) and click Add alert.
- Choose the Metric.
- Choose % Change or Absolute threshold.
- For % Change, pick the direction, the Percentage threshold (%), and Over the last in days or weeks. For Absolute threshold, pick Falls below or Rises above and enter the Value.
- Add the Emails that should receive it. Your own address is filled in; add teammates or clients as needed. They do not need a GEOflux login.
- Optionally change the Alert title. Left alone, it is written from the rule, so it always says what the alert watches.
Before you save, the form shows the whole rule in one sentence, for example "Alert you@company.com when Visibility drops by more than 10% over the last 7 days."
The Alerts table shows each alert's Alert name, Created date, Recipients and Is active, with a search box. Is active reads Yes while the alert's condition is met. Use a row's menu to Edit or Delete an alert. You can also find an alert from the search in the top bar, which opens it for editing.
Creating, editing and deleting alerts needs an active subscription (Free counts) and any role except Read Only User. See User management.
The emails
GEOflux checks your alerts in the background. When an alert trips, every recipient gets an email with the subject "Active GeoFlux alert" followed by the alert's name, and one "Cleared GeoFlux alert" email when the metric is back on the right side of the line.
Every alert email has an unsubscribe link. Alerts share an email category with watchlist reports, so unsubscribing stops both for that address. To stop an alert for everyone, delete it. See Emails and notifications.
What to set up first
- Visibility drop: % Change, Drop, 15% over the last 7 days. You hear about a loss early, without reacting to single-day noise.
- Sentiment floor: Absolute threshold, Falls below 5. You find out when the engines start describing you negatively. Then open What's driving this and the answers behind it.
- Share of voice drop: % Change, Drop, 15% over the last 14 days, to flag a competitor pulling ahead.
Set thresholds wide enough to ignore normal day-to-day variation. AI answers move every day; an alert that fires every week gets ignored. Start wide, and tighten once you know how much your numbers usually move.
